Structural BODYWORK - written by John SmithAll workshops will use the text 'Structural BODYWORK', written by the convener, John Smith. It has an extensive practical section including over 100 techniques. The book will be provided to attendees as part of their course fee; attendees that already have it should deduct $80 from the course fee.

An Introduction to Myofascial Techniques

This workshop is a practical introduction to some powerful myofascial techniques - myofascial release (direct form) and muscle energy technique ? techniques that can be incorporated directly into your massage practice or into other manual approaches. Background theory will include fascial anatomy.

Postural Therapy I

This workshop will use Myers' anatomy train concept to provide a holistic framework for understanding and evaluating some common postural problems; it will demonstrate an effective three-layered approach to address these problems using: myofascial release (direct form), muscle energy and some integrative approaches to whole body functioning.
The practical work will address postural imbalances through the sagittal plane (front/back imbalances) - Myers' superficial front and back lines. The following will be specifically addressed: 'forward head' syndrome, thoracic inlet syndrome, excessive pelvic tilt or shift, and excessive or diminished spinal curves. It will also touch upon the muscular response to stress, 'the body pattern of anxiety'.
Prerequisite: An Introduction to Myofascial Techniques or equivalent

Postural Therapy II

Building on the skills gained from Postural Therapy I, this workshop will address: postural imbalances in the frontal plane (left/right imbalances) using Myers? lateral and spiral lines. The following will be specifically addressed: the relief of scoliosis, pelvic obliquity due to leg-length discrepancy, and excessive internal or external rotation of limbs.
Prerequisite: Postural Therapy I

A Myofascial Approach to RSI

This workshop use myofascial techniques to address common, computer-related RSI problems in the neck and upper extremities. There will be additional practical notes for techniques not covered by the 'Structural Bodywork' text.

Prerequisite:

An Introduction to Myofascial Techniques or equivalent.
